- Steve XProcess new scan
I've bought a Nikon Coolscan 8000 which does medium format - here's a new scan of my Xprocess 6x6 Bronica SQ shot of Steve, 2009, Fuji colour neg film (RDPW?), crossprocessed. This is closer to what was shot - strangely the prints I got back in 2009 had a yellow/green cast which I like but looks rather odd - and isn't completely on the negs!) - Steve Medium Format - high key backlit
- Steve medium format
Hmm I quite like this shot but obviously not totally successful...was hand holding the Bronica and focusing while looking down is kind of fun (ie: hard) and I obviously gave his hard critical focus - might have been intentional but I'd have preferred the face to be in critical focus! These are part of a series trying high-key photography via a fashion method bouncing loads of light behind the subject to get a soft, ethereal feel - problem was not enough light came back onto the subject, it's really hard to balance it. - Steve cross process 2009

6x7 (cropped) Pentax, Ilford FP4 - edited in Lightroom 4 - Shiggi 6x7 (cropped)
Ilford PF4 medium format black and white, 6x7cm - I forget which camera, there was a massive one that looked like an overscale SLR I think it was a Pentax 6x7? Either that or a TLR but I think TLRs are usually square. - Pergola Infrared 2003
Infrared Konica 750nm shots of the Pergola on the Vale of Health and some shots of Hampstead. Although shot on infrared film, not sure if I used the filter for this shot, I think so hence the white leaves but it's possible I left the filter at home that day. It still has a reather odd alien feel to it, though. - Kirk, Godalming College 1992
First pictures I took in black and white - and this was the first portrait I was proud of, and first pictures I developed myself, circa 91. Iford 'Safety Film' (!) FP4. Camera was a strange secondhand Russian or German camera with an odd square aperture which had problems focusing (I think the lens was coming away!). Negs are in a terrible state I've done what I can but it's like snow if you zoom in...I rewashed them which made a massive difference but bad handling before I had a clue, storage and dusty/scratchy enlargers and I think underdeveloping and/or crap in the developer haven't helped. You name it these negs have it: hairs, dust, odd watermarks, gunk on the negs that won't wash off, scratches, damaged emulsion, holes in the film (!) *sigh* First pictures I took in black and white - and this was the first portrait I was proud of, and first pictures I developed myself, circa 91. My first studio session if memory serves...shot on Kodak EL-2 (Elite Chrome apparently - very old, as is best for cross process...) I took out most of the rather lurid green caste - it's there in the shadows / crazy colours, but I think it looks better with normal skin tones....
