    Oscar and Bosie

Oscare Wilde and Bosie cabinet cards. Surprising they were this open to the level of giving out cards to their friends or visitors.

Second one – cabinet photograph of Wilde and Lord Alfred Douglas, Oxford, 1893, Collection of Mary, Viscountess Eccles – I suspect the former which is in the British Library is the same collection.

Haven’t done a sweep for CDVs (Carte de Visite) for literally years. CDVs were like business cards but with photos, there are so many of them from early years of photography, probably the only photographs of these individuals and quite often not marked who these people were, just the photographer.

This one is by E. R. Curtiss in Madison Wisconsin, circa 1870-90′s.

Matisse at work on an illustration for his book, Ulysses, 1953. No credit either and this is from the (official?) Henri Matisse site….I do look for credits for ALL images, as a photographer it pisses me off when things of mine are reposted without credit. But even with Google Image search you can call a blank quite often.

Although he was famously grumpy-looking in early photos, it seems introduce his cats Minouche, Le Puce or Coussi and he becomes like a teddy bear…aww. Seems later in life he seemed to smile a lot more in photos. One of these is by Robert Capa – on the bed – can’t find credits for the others. Circa late 1940′s?

Erik Satie in 1909 – a rather famous shot used for various book covers etc. Can’t find the photographer?

I thought I’d posted the French-Scots loveliness that is composer Erik Satie, but not.

EDIT – turns out this is a crop of a Man Ray photo of 1921. Full size now added.
